Introduction An ever-increasing number of purchases and payments are being made by credit card. Although merchants and service providers that accept credit cards have an obligation to protect customers’ sensitive information, the software solutions they use may not support best practices for securing credit card information. To help combat this issue, a security standard for credit card information has been developed and is being widely adopted.

Executive Summary Neuralytix interviewed two different development firms to compare how they developed the same data-intensive application using different approaches. QPAIR (www.qpair.io) used various point solutions to build the platform and application, whereas Aluna Group (www.alunagroup.com) built the application using InterSystems IRIS Data Platform™, a unified data platform that provides comprehensive data management, interoperability, and analytics capabilities in a single product. The result of our investigation was that Aluna Group was able to develop the application for a lower total cost while using fewer employees and fewer total hours.

They must also design systems that can, when needed, handle many thousands of concurrent users. It’s not easy, but designing for massive scalability is an absolute necessity.
