Advanced MultiValue Features, Speed, Scalability Drive Database Software Selection

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—December 4, 2007— InterSystems Corporation today announced that Pathology Associates Medical Laboratories (PAML) has selected the InterSystems CACHÉ®  high-performance object database as the database for their next generation laboratory billing system. The largest independent laboratory in the Northwest, PAML is moving forward immediately to leverage comprehensive CACHÉ MultiValue capabilities by migrating its billing services application to CACHÉ, according to Mark Johnston, CIO.

InterSystems is a leading provider of innovative database and integration software. Its product line includes the InterSystems CACHÉ high-performance object database, InterSystems Ensemble® rapid integration platform, and InterSystems HealthShare platform for regional and national electronic health records. Headquartered in Spokane, Wash., PAML delivers a wide range of testing services to thousands of physicians and more than 100 hospitals throughout a core market that includes Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, California, Utah, Wyoming and Alaska.

Rapid Development, Deployment to Enable Rapid Migration

“The unrivalled speed of CACHÉ was key to our database technology selection,” said Johnston. “We wanted to move forward as rapidly as possible with migrating the billing system to a new, high-performance platform that provides top-level MultiValue facilities,” Johnston said. “CACHÉ also offers an open environment so we can leverage technologies such as Java, .NET and Web services.

“In addition to using the billing application internally for the testing services that we provide, PAML provides billing services to more than 20 medical laboratories, and we expect that base to keep growing,” Johnston continued. “CACHÉ offers the high availability and massive scalability needed to support our end users as well as the outside customer population while also providing a direct MultiValue migration path that minimizes the challenges of a legacy system migration,” he said.

Partnering with InterSystems to complete a highly successful proof of concept, PAML is moving forward with a migration plan that calls for beginning modularized deployment of the new, CACHÉ-based billing application in 2008. “It very rarely occurs that I would buy technology in October and have the migration project done by the end of the year,” Johnston noted.

“InterSystems is pleased to have the opportunity to enable PAML’s growth objectives by providing the innovative, high-performance database technology needed to execute its business strategy,” said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “This business partnership highlights our commitment to helping our partners leverage the best available database and integration technologies.”
