Rapid Development and Deployment of Physician Portal Drives Selection
Cambridge, Mass. – February 14, 2005 – InterSystems Corporation today announced that Boston Medical Center (BMC) has selected the Ensemble universal integration platform for a new, strategic integration and development initiative. The announcement of the agreement was made at the HIMSS 2005 conference in Dallas, Texas.
The leading application platform provider in healthcare, InterSystems develops and markets the CACHÉ post-relational database and the Ensemble universal integration platform worldwide. BMC is a private, not-for-profit, 547-licensed bed academic medical center located in Boston. The hospital is the primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine and the largest safety net hospital in New England.
Physician Portal Improves Patient Care
The initiative involves integrating data from multiple clinical systems in order to create a Web-based portal that provides physicians with a unified view and rapid access to clinical information. “With a best-of-breed approach to systems, physicians are faced with the challenge to look into multiple computerized systems to both find the information they need and to sign off on orders and tasks” said Darren Dworkin, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at BMC. “The first phase of the physician portal will provide BMC physicians with secure access to a prioritized task list that delivers real-time clinical and administrative status on items requiring their attention, such as lab and discharge data.”
Rapid Deployment of Physician Portal
Strong demand for the physician portal made rapid integration, fast development and quick deployment capabilities critical criteria in the selection of Ensemble, according to Dworkin. A proof of concept showcasing the main functionality required for the physician task list project was completed in 14 hours, demonstrating the ability of Ensemble to support rapid development of complex integration solutions. “Based on those results and the comprehensive feature set provided by Ensemble, we’re confident that we’ll meet our aggressive implementation objectives for the entire portal project,” he said. The physician task list is scheduled to go live in February.
“Ensemble’s comprehensive adapter library, including rich HL7 support, and its unified business process modeling and portal development environments accelerate integration and development for business analysts, interface specialists and application developers, delivering the rapid time-to-solution that is so important to the success of BMC’s physician portal project,” said Trevor Matz, InterSystems Managing Director, Ensemble. “We’re very pleased to be able to provide BMC with an integration platform that has the rapid capabilities necessary to support their implementation schedule.”
