Within two years, the Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli will become the most digitized hospital in the Lazio Region with speed and efficiency ensured by the implementation of InterSystems TrakCare
Milan, October 15, 2018 – InterSystems, a global leader in health information technology, announced today its partnership with Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, Rome. The partnership that was signed in August involves transformation of the Gemelli’s IT system architecture to optimize care and be in synergy with the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli as an IRCCS (Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico – Scientific Healthcare Institution) and with the achievement of the Joint Commission accreditation (JCIA).
Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli is a benchmark institution for national and international healthcare services and its medical specialization is constantly growing. Gemelli is embarking on a digital transformation eHealth program, and the backbone to this digitalization is the use of InterSystems TrakCare®, an Electronic Medical Record System with unified revenue cycle management and clinical capabilities. TrakCare is used in more than 26 countries worldwide and offers global best practice in patient healthcare IT management.
The Gemelli’s eHealth program will take place in 4 main stages, spread across two and half years, that will cover most of the clinical activities of the Gemelli hospital.
The outcome of the eHealth program will be a unified Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system that will support clinicians in their decision making process. Patients will be tracked step by step, from the moment they enter the hospital through the various stages of their treatment journey to the moment they are discharged. From accessing the hospital (from an outpatient’s facility or the emergency room), till every moment patients remain in the facility, the healthcare professionals taking care of them will follow their treatment path and adopt the most appropriate practices, optimizing care, reducing delays and offering patients an enhanced experience and seamless care journey.
“TrakCare enables care providers to have a holistic view of each patient’s clinical, administrative, and financial information at any given time to achieve their clinical and financial goals. It detects and stores significant events, orchestrates processes and, above all, supports staff’s clinical decisions. In other words, it is a fundamental tool to enable innovation and continuous improvement of care processes for the benefit of the patients,” said Cesare Guidorzi, Country Manager of InterSystems Italy. “Our commitment towards these prestigious Italian hospitals is to support them in their development and growth, and for this reason, we are very pleased with our partnership with Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, a leading national and international healthcare institution.”
“Policlinico A. Gemelli is a complex and multipart hospital that combines top-level research and care. Technological innovation is a key factor for achieving our objectives and ensuring that the best treatment is given to approximately 100,000 patients that come to us every year,” says Marco Elefanti, General Manager of Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS. “Our agreement with a leading company such as InterSystems Italy supports these goals, considering that the availability of advanced IT systems is now strategic in the healthcare industry. We are certain that all our staff and our patients will receive great benefits from this strategic partnership”.
The decision to select InterSystems TrakCare is driven by the need for a proven, functionally rich international solution that supports Gemelli in achieving its strategic development and quality objectives supported by a long-term business partner committed to the Italian market.
TrakCare manages and connects the pathways across departments: administrative processes for patient appointment booking, admission, discharge and transfer, from the management of hospitalization and outpatient waiting lists to Emergency reports. All of this is taking place while guaranteeing a connection with the main regional and national data banks.
One of the success factors in TrakCare’s implementation is the methodology that encourages its uniform adoption within the hospital. This is a critical engagement process for all hospital staff supported by the comprehensive work teams comprised of InterSystems and Gemelli experts including medical, administrative and management staff.
The process, owned by the Gemelli team and supported by InterSystems, features a full information and training campaign for all system users and a survey program to address questions, concerns and ideas to improve the adoption. This ensures that the maximum value of TrakCare is realized as rapidly as possible and that the relevant information is immediately available and usable by the authorized hospital staff.
