Focus on Business Process Management, Common Code Platform Drive Ensemble Selection
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – April 26, 2010 – InterSystems Corporation, the global leader in software for connected healthcare, today announced that the integrated University of California Davis Health System (UC Davis) has selected InterSystems Ensemble® as its core integration platform. Ensemble implementation will begin at the UC Davis Medical Center, which provides vital care to more than 200,000 patients every year and maintains an annual budget of $1.5 billion.
Moving to Optimize Business Processes
A strategic emphasis on solving business process challenges drove the decision to evaluate new integration software products. UC Davis wanted to move from its legacy platform, which was just an interface engine, to a platform that not only handles application and data integration, but also supports true business process management (BPM).
After evaluating multiple integration products, Ensemble, which is used to develop and integrate mission-critical applications, leverage previous software investments through composite applications, and establish an enterprise service bus or SOA infrastructure, emerged as the best platform on which to execute UC Davis’ long-term integration strategy. In addition to providing comprehensive functionality, Ensemble offers a common technology base with InterSystems CACHÉ®, which is the database foundation for the UC Davis Epic hospital information system. This commonality enables the organization’s development and operations staff to leverage technical skills across a broad range of enterprise systems.
The transition to Ensemble is now under way with more than 400 interfaces slated for creation in the new integration environment. At the same time, the IT group is looking at Ensemble as a possible alternative for future development projects.
“Healthcare organizations worldwide are realizing that Ensemble has the potential to not just connect their disparate information systems, but also to improve the operation of the hospital with its composite application, and BPM capabilities,” said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “UC Davis is among the major health systems that are leading the way in using integration technology to support cost-effective quality care delivery. We appreciate the opportunity to work with them on their initiatives for connected healthcare.”
