InterSystems TrakCare Creates Integrated Healthcare Information System Spanning General Practices, Specialist Clinics and Raffles Private Hospital

Sydney, Australia – February 18, 2008 – InterSystems today announced that Raffles Medical Group in Singapore has selected the TrakCare Web-based healthcare information system to create an integrated solution with a shared electronic patient record spanning more than 60 general practice clinics, associated specialist clinics and Raffles Hospital.

TrakCare replaces and consolidates information from three existing patient administration systems – used by Raffles Medical Group for the general practice, specialist and hospital divisions – and will promote better continuity of care for patients. The new shared electronic patient record will also promote efficiency and improved levels of care and provide a platform for growth.

TrakCare also adds a range of new functions based on a shared electronic patient record, replacing paper-based medical records in most cases. This will allow Raffles Medical Group to provide healthcare services more efficiently while increasing the level of care it offers patients. Raffles will be able to meet the increased demand for services associated with its rapid growth – both in terms of number of facilities and the number of patients treated – and offer a greater range of medical services.

“We wanted to take the opportunity to update the infrastructure so we will be better prepared for the years ahead,” said Dr Colin Quek, Chief Information Officer for Raffles Medical Group. “In today’s world if you don’t automate, your efficiency just isn’t there. Healthcare is a very information intensive business.”

“We need to rationalise and consolidate information so we see a single view of the patient, regardless of which service is received. After seeing a general practitioner, patients typically have to re-register when they see a specialist, and again at the hospital. We should only have to register the patient once at the beginning,” said Dr Quek.

“With better sharing of information, there will be less waste of time and expense from unnecessary repeated tests. Doctors will have immediate access to electronic health records and that will also improve the level of care.”.

After evaluating most of the healthcare information systems available in Singapore, Raffles Medical Group selected TrakCare because of the fit with its requirements and the level of flexibility. The system’s Web-based interface was also attractive because of its ease of deployment and future ease of maintenance.

TrakCare’s implementation – scheduled for completion in 2008 – will include Emergency, Operating Theatre, Medical Records Management, Medical Records Tracking, Order Entry (with electronic prescribing), Pharmacy Management, Radiology, Laboratory Management, Results Reporting, Clinical Summary, Active Decision Support, Workbenches, Accounts Receivable, Financial Data Extracts, Reports and Dashboards.

The new healthcare information system will also be integrated with Raffles’ other information systems, including inventory and finance systems, offering immediate information access across the business to support better decision making. The integration will be performed using TrakCare’s “FastTrak to EPR”, a powerful combination of innovative architecture, modern technologies, and streamlined implementation methodologies.
