Ease of Use, Rapid Development Features Drive Integration Software Choice

NEW ORLEANS —February 26, 2007— InterSystems Corporation today announced that Pathology Medical Services (PMS)/Nebraska LabLinc (NLL) has selected Ensemble rapid integration software for integration projects across the enterprise. The announcement came during the HIMSS ‘07 annual conference and exhibition.

InterSystems is a leading provider of innovative database and integration software. Its product line includes the CACHÉ high performance object database, Ensemble rapid integration software and the HealthShare health information exchange platform. PMS/NLL are independent laboratories that specialize in anatomic and clinical testing for U.S. healthcare providers and patients.

Client Focused Business Needs Drive New IT Strategy

A seamless delivery of technology needs from the two companies triggered the firms’ technology integration strategy. “We decided to join our IT efforts from two companies with completely different systems and processes,” said Mose Tsoka, PMS’ IT Manager. “Each firm had different methods and capabilities of order and results delivery. The goal was to provide our clients with a single interface and/or similar choices rather than forcing clients to interact with separate systems.”

To reach that objective, the companies conducted an extensive evaluation of ten integration software products. “We narrowed the initial number down to three vendors and, after a successful proof-of concept project, selected InterSystems Ensemble® as our company-wide integration engine,” Tsoka said.

Ensemble Right for Now and For the Future

Ensemble’s ease of use played a major part in the decision to work with the InterSystems product. “With the object programming capabilities, it’s very easy to build new interfaces. The ability to provide our current client base of over 300 with fast, easy access to the new interface is critical to business success,” Tsoka said.

In addition, Ensemble offers a unified graphical, XML and code-based development environment as well as a universal data and services architecture that provides consistent, efficient abstraction and representation of multiple disparate programming models and data formats. “This design supports our plans to create composite applications with Ensemble that leverage current core systems while offering new capabilities,” Tsoka noted.

InterSystems’ commitment to building a relationship that is a true working partnership was also important to the final decision to go with Ensemble, according to Tsoka. “What sold us in the end was the people…the InterSystems team that worked with us…the fact that they were willing to do a proof-of-concept project…and the references from other Ensemble customers who have been successful with the product,” he said.

“Working closely in a team effort to help ensure customers reach their objectives has been a core business value since InterSystems was founded,” commented Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “We are committed to doing whatever is necessary to enable our customers’ long-term success.”

The companies have started their production rollout with two major clients already getting HL7 result messages from Ensemble. The IT group is in the last phase of building an HL7 bi-directional interface with one of their major clients, and the rollout to additional clients will continue throughout 2007 and beyond.

“Delivering accurate lab test results to healthcare providers in the most responsive way possible is an absolute requirement for exceptional care delivery,” said Trevor Matz, InterSystems Managing Director, Application Integration. “PMS and NLL have a reputation for doing just that and InterSystems is pleased to partner with them as they expand their presence in the laboratory testing market.”
