Comprehensive Solution Delivers EHR, Practice Management, Advanced Reporting CapabilitiesTo Fulfill Meaningful Use Criteria
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—August, 17, 2011— InterSystems Corporation, a global leader in software for connected care, today announced that application partner Medical Systems, Inc. (MSI) is launching a breakthrough application for community health centers (CHCs). Built on the InterSystems CACHÉ high-performance object database, the new version of Vision:CHC is a comprehensive offering that includes the full range of facilities needed for CHCs to fulfill Meaningful Use and Patient-centered Medical Home criteria.
CACHÉ-based Vision:CHC includes three integrated components that address specific CHC requirements involving electronic health records (EHRs), practice management and reporting. “We offer a superior system, superior services, and superior value to CHCs,” said Mary Beth Smith, President of MSI.
Addressing Unique CHC Needs
CHCs have clearly defined requirements that differ from those of other health care providers, said Smith. For example, CHCs are required to produce uniform data system (UDS) reports—a core set of information for reviewing the operation and performance of health centers—for the federal government on an annual basis. “Our practice management and EHR components enable CHCs to collect and aggregate required data in real time. The data elements are integrated into the patient information workflow so that relevant UDS and Meaningful Use data can be easily monitored,” she explained.
Dwayne Mitchell, CEO of East Chicago Community Health Center and an early user of CACHÉ-based Vision:CHC, has a similar perspective. “Like other CHCs, we are a not-for-profit organization governed by a community board, 51 percent of whom must be our health care users,” he said. “We have 19 specific standards that we must comply to in order to maintain our status as a federally funded 330 grantee and we must adhere to certain criteria in terms of demographics, best practices and other areas.”
The East Chicago CHC is currently implementing Vision:CHC with plans to roll out the new application by December. “Vision:CHC helps ensure that we will be recognized as a quality health care provider that is practicing according to the standards of the National Committee of Quality Assurance, “said Mitchell. “We’re already getting some help from this software in terms of Meaningful Use,” he continued. “The 19 indicators that Vision:CHC includes are tailored for CHCs, making it easy for us to be recognized by the federal government for fulfilling Meaningful Use requirements.”
High Performance and Low Maintenance
The decision to build the new Vision:CHC on CACHÉ was tied to two capabilities, according to Smith. “CACHÉ is a powerful, stable and scalable technology and it is the fastest development tool available,” she said. “It operates very rapidly and if a client ever has performance issues, it only takes a tweak to eliminate those concerns.” That high performance is combined with the fact that there is literally no maintenance required by CACHÉ. “Our clients don’t want to have a database administrator and, with CACHÉ, they don’t need one.”
“CACHÉ is known worldwide for its unique combination of high performance and low maintenance requirements,” said Matt Nee, InterSystems Vice President of North American Sales. “MSI has leveraged our advanced database software to create a breakthrough system that will help CHCs to meet the complex reporting requirements tied to Meaningful Use. We look forward to a long working relationship with this creative, committed application partner.”
