InterSystems Names Winner Of Worldwide Application Development Challenge

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—March 8, 2012— InterSystems Corporation, a worldwide leader in advanced database, integration and analytics technologies, today announced the winner of its third  Globals Challenge contest.

InterSystems launched the Globals Challenge series as a means of building interest in the InterSystems Globals free database system. Characterized by fast performance, massive scalability and easy-to-use APIs, Globals is the proven technology core of many thousands of applications that run on InterSystems’ software products.

Globals is available to any developer at no charge from http://globalsdb.org. Globals Challenge number three was open-ended, requiring that developers build a solution or application that uses Globals database technology to solve a problem, meet a current market need or create a new market by innovative use of data.

Anton Lapitskiy, a student at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, also known as Russia’s National Nuclear Research University, takes the $3,500 competition prize. Anton was recognized for a technology framework that can be used as the foundation for building Big Data software solutions.

“A focus on solutions for efficient Big Data management is a growing trend among application developers in most countries,” said Robert Nagle, InterSystems Vice President of Software Development. “Anton’s winning entry was selected based on its unique utilization of the power of Globals technology to provide a framework for application development in the Big Data space. Anton’s solution is easy to adopt, another attractive feature to those of us who believe powerful frameworks can be simple,” Nagle said.

“The Challenges provide the opportunity for developers to highlight their creativity by leveraging innovative technology to deliver breakthrough software solutions. Besides, the cash prize is worth having,” said Nagle.

“We welcome engagement of the application development community for future Challenges and new APIs from individual application developers and development teams,” he continued. “As a condition of Challenges submission, winning applications are donated to the Globals community. Hopefully, these examples of innovation at work will stimulate new and creative development ideas among everyone engaged in using GlobalsDb.org.”

The Next Globals Challenge

Globals challenge  number four is scheduled to start March 29, 2012.  InterSystems predicts increased competition as developers can choose to build solutions using Java, Node.js, and the new .NET Globals API. See Globals Challenge participation information for details.
