InterSystems, Elisa and Mawell Care combine local expertise with InterSystems globally proven TrakCare healthcare information system
HELSINKI, May 27 2013 — InterSystems, a global leader in software for connected care, today announced the formation of a coalition to bid for Finland’s largest public eHealth programme, called Apotti. The eHealth programme is a major undertaking to upgrade, integrate and streamline the health and social welfare IT systems for the entire Helsinki health district. This is Finland’s largest health district, with 1.5 million citizens receiving care from a joint authority of 24 municipalities, consisting of 21 hospitals and the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa.
InterSystems believes that, with the support of its Finnish coalition partners Elisa and Mawell Care, and an additional social services partner, it will offer the most comprehensive and complete solution for Apotti. The coalition’s proposed solution is based on InterSystems TrakCare®, an Internet-based unified healthcare information system, and InterSystems HealthShare®, a strategic platform for healthcare informatics, enabling information exchange and active analytics. Together, these products will provide citizens improved, safe and integrated care from where ever they need it by enabling authorized healthcare professionals to access complete patient records from anywhere, with any device, in real time. The solution is modular, enabling easy connectivity to legacy applications and data, and new capability can be added when desired.
The coalition has extensive practical Finnish experience in supporting social and healthcare services with proven software solutions. InterSystems, since it established its Finnish office in 1995, has provided key healthcare software technologies via its Caché and Ensemble products, which are in use in 13 out of 18 hospital districts and over 80% of laboratories. .
“InterSystems built this coalition to respond to Apotti’s needs; together with our partners, we will offer an agile system covering all Apotti requirements,” says InterSystems Client Executive Director Antti Larsio. InterSystems will provide the strategic software; Elisa, the leading Finnish telecommunications and ICT service company, will provide all ICT services for operating the solution; and Mawell Care, the leading provider of eHealth services in the Nordic countries, will provide 24/7 solution support services.
“This is a continuation of our well established cooperation with numerous hospital districts and municipalities regarding ICT services and technical solutions supporting the building of core services, including booking, self-care, home care and customer services,” comments Elisa VP Government Customers Ari Ranto.
“Mawell Care provides 24/7 healthcare on-call services for the entire Helsinki region, services for the elderly to the city of Tampere, and a citizens’ portal solution to the city of Oulu. In total, Mawell Care handles about one million healthcare and social welfare service events annually,” says Mawell Care CEO Timo Koistinen.
“The Apotti eHealth programme is one of the most ambitious being undertaken anywhere in the world and InterSystems approaches it as a strategic commitment to Finnish healthcare. While we are best known in Finland for our technology products, InterSystems is a global leader in successfully completing demanding eHealth programmes, including; a hospital programme serving 4 million inhabitants in Scotland, a primary care program serving 8 million inhabitants in Chile, a community care programme serving 5 million inhabitants in Australia, and regional electronic health record systems serving 65 million inhabitants in the U.S.” says Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President Strategic Planning.
“Our success is based on global software which is uniquely adaptable to country-specific healthcare requirements and workflows. This was clearly shown in the Scottish national Patient Management System, which has many similarities to Apotti and which was delivered on time and on budget, supporting care provision to over 70% of the Scottish population and used by over 114,000 healthcare professionals,” concludes Grabscheid.
