CACHÉ Post-Relational Database and Egenera BladeFrame Deliver High Performance to Financial Services Sector
Cambridge, Mass. -April 20, 2005 – InterSystems Corporation today announced an alliance with Egenera, Inc. that supports rapid delivery of high performance real-time systems to the financial services industry. The announcement was made at the 3rd Annual Linux on Wall Street Show and Conference in New York.
InterSystems develops and markets the CACHÉ post-relational database and Ensemble universal integration platform worldwide. Marlboro, Mass.-based Egenera is a global leader in utility computing with the Egenera® BladeFrame® system.
As a new member of Egenera’s Assured Solutions Alliance program, InterSystems will collaborate with Egenera on initiatives aimed at delivering top-tier high performance solutions for real-time data acquisition. Egenera will work with InterSystems as a member of its CACHÉ Technical Partners program.
“This is a natural alliance between two companies that focus on delivering high performance products across multiple industry sectors,” said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “Egenera’s successful track record with BladeFrame systems in financial services complements our focus in that industry. There is an inherent synergy between CACHÉ, which is optimized for high performance transaction processing, and the Egenera Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture that makes it possible to deliver top-tier performance for truly real-time systems.”
The Linux on Wall Street show is an ideal venue for announcing the alliance with Egenera, according to Grabscheid. “Linux offers the reliability, high availability and scalability needed by financial services companies on a platform that is considerably more cost-effective than proprietary UNIX alternatives. That creative open systems approach highlights the innovative technology provided by InterSystems and Egenera,” he said.
“The combination of CACHÉ and our BladeFrame PAN architecture leverages both products’ strengths and capabilities,” said Susan Davis, Egenera Vice President of Marketing and Product Management. “And, while our initial focus will be on Wall Street, this alliance provides a strong foundation for expansion into other markets, such a healthcare and government, where both companies have a strong presence.”
Early Results Underline Success
CACHÉ and the Egenera BladeFrame provide an architecture that enables a class of applications that utilize up-to-the-second information. In benchmarks now under way of a CACHÉ-based system running on Egenera’s platform at a major Wall Street firm, messages are being captured and stored at a constant feed rate of up to 90,000 per second. Typically, Wall Street firms use data from the New York Stock Exchange Daily Trades and Quotes (Daily TAQ) feed in batch mode for day-after financial analysis. In contrast, the benchmark test system is making Stock and other information, such as Ticker messages, immediately available for intra-day analysis—a major benefit for trading and risk management systems in financial services and for applications in every industry sector where real-time analysis is critical to competitive success.
