Developers Worldwide Build Innovative Systems On CACHÉ High Performance Object Database
Cambridge, Mass.—May 30, 2007— InterSystems Corporation today announced the winners of its annual CACHÉ Innovator Awards competition for 2007. The awards recognize technology innovators for their use of the InterSystems CACHÉ® high performance object database in building systems that break new ground in application development.
InterSystems is a leading provider of innovative database and integration software. Its product line includes the InterSystems CACHÉ® high performance object database, InterSystems Ensemble® rapid integration platform, and InterSystems HealthShare™ platform for regional and national electronic health records. Illustrating the global presence of InterSystems and CACHÉ, developers from 13 countries on six continents submitted entries. The awards were presented at InterSystems’ annual worldwide customer conference in Orlando.
Award submissions were independently reviewed and judged by Carl Olofson, Research Vice President, from IDC, a leading technology market research firm in Framingham, Mass. Olofson selected the winning entries based on criteria that included the leading-edge nature of the application, use of new technologies and approaches, and the breadth, depth and innovation of CACHÉ technology utilization within the application. “It’s truly exciting to see the creative application development that is evident in these award submissions,” Olofson said.
The first-place award went to the Australian firm Optimate PTY, Ltd. (www.optimate.net.au). Its Faceguard™ system provides analytic support for determining the strength of the roof of a longwall coal mine. The system provides geotechnical and mining experts within the underground mining operation with a means of visualizing key data on a real-time basis and, in effect, watching for behaviors of the mine roof supports that may indicate that a coal face or roof fall is imminent. Noting that the application processing requires more than 500,000 calculate and discriminate operations every five seconds, Optimate cited the architecture of CACHÉ storage mechanism and the ability to access data directly or via SQL as critical to building the new application.
Cumberland Systems Company, based in Richardson, Texas, took the second-place award with its Opt-Index Real-Time Business Directory. Cumberland Systems developers leveraged the performance and speed delivered by CACHÉ to build a web-based directory with extensive search capability that features real-time web posting so that changes and additions take effect immediately. Chris Stephens, President of Cumberland Systems, also noted that the advanced object features provided by CACHÉ were major factors influencing the company’s database software choice since their perception is that an object-oriented approach stands “the best chance of accurately modeling real world business and personal data.”
Grapevine Solutions (www.grapevine.ie), headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, was recognized with a third-place award for its CACHÉ-based PRIVATEXT text messaging system for mobile phones. PRIVATEXT provides secure, encrypted text messaging to ensure message confidentiality and integrity. Grapevine’s developers used virtually every technology feature provided by CACHÉ to build back-end server capabilities that manage all message routing, billing, installation, subscription renewals, system management and interfaces between the application and the database. PRIVATEXT was launched in Ireland in 4Q05 and future plans call for expansion throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America.
“Developers all over the globe are leveraging CACHÉ capabilities to create innovative software applications that set new competitive levels in multiple markets,” said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “InterSystems applauds the CACHÉ 2007 Innovator Award winners and thanks every developer who participated in this competition.”
