Award-Winning Electronic Medication Administration Record System Built on CACHÉ Post-Relational Database
Cambridge, Mass. – November 18, 2005 – InterSystems Corporation today announced that Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) has been named a winner in the annual InfoWorld 100 award competition. BWH was recognized for its electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) system built on InterSystems’ CACHÉ post-relational database.
The leading database provider in healthcare, InterSystems develops and markets the CACHÉ post-relational database and the Ensemble universal integration platform.
BWH, a world leader in patient care, medical education, and research is a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. BWH is a member of Partners HealthCare, an integrated healthcare system that offers patients a continuum of coordinated high-quality care.
The annual awards honor IT projects that demonstrate the most creative use of cutting-edge technologies to further their business goals, according to InfoWorld. Selection criteria require that projects stretch beyond the typical off-the-shelf solution, using multiple technologies in innovative ways to serve well-defined business goals.
“IT departments continue to learn hard lessons about business realities and realistic ROI,” said Eric Knorr, Executive Editor at Large. “The InfoWorld 100 provides a forum for IT managers to get the recognition they deserve for smart projects from an audience of their peers.”
Development and rollout of the mobile component of the CACHÉ-based eMAR system was handled in-house by a group that included the IT department, nursing and pharmacy staff, and internal auditors.
“Representatives from multiple areas throughout BWH worked as a team to build a fully closed medical management loop,” said Cindy Spurr, Partners Corporate Director for Clinical Systems Management. “The fully mobile eMAR combines technologies including Bluetooth and barcoding with the original CACHÉ-based application to ensure that the right decision support is applied at the appropriate points in the medication administration workflow to provide optimum care delivery. We are very pleased that our team’s efforts have been recognized by InfoWorld,” she continued.
“BWH and Partners are known nationally for their innovative use of information technology to support ongoing improvements in care delivery,” said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “We congratulate them on their inclusion in the 2005 InfoWorld 100.”
