CACHÉ e-DBMS Scales to 6,000 Concurrent Users On Compaq Alpha Platform
Cambridge, MA – February 28, 2000 –InterSystems today announced results of a benchmark conducted in collaboration with Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ). The benchmark was designed to test CACHÉ database scalability and performance on the Compaq OpenVMS platform.
Running as the central database for an integrated patient management application from a leading healthcare industry vendor, the CACHÉ e-DBMS scaled to 6,000 concurrent users while meeting stringent response time requirements. The benchmark environment included the CACHÉ database server on a single Compaq AlphaServer GS140 processing healthcare transactions over a Fast Ethernet switched network. In contrast to the “artificial” benchmarks that are typically run, this one featured a sophisticated real-world application running a realistic workload. Response time was as low as .2 seconds with an average 1.7 seconds response time during the 6,000-user test, proving that the CACHÉ e-DBMS delivers high performance while easily scaling to thousands of users on a single system-ideal for the explosively expanding e-business arena.
Collaboration Delivers Scalability, High Performance
“Scalability and performance are key success factors for virtually every high-demand transaction processing application,” says Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems vice president of strategic planning. “The results of this joint engineering collaboration underline what the powerful combination of CACHÉ and the OpenVMS system delivers in those areas.”
The benchmark also highlights a viable growth path for organizations in transition. In multiple sectors-healthcare and financial services, for example-organizational growth through mergers and acquisitions makes the demand for high performance and scalability greater than ever. Virtually all of these organizations are also looking to leverage the Web in every possible way. That makes fast response and the ability to reliably scale in highly volatile circumstances crucial for enterprise success.
“This benchmark is concrete proof that the CACHÉ e-DBMS provides the e-business infrastructure needed to successfully leverage the Web,” concludes Grabscheid.
