4Q04 Release Projected to Cut Deployment Time More than 60 Percent

Cambridge, Mass.—October 26, 2004— InterSystems Corporation today announced that FORUM Solutions has successfully completed phase one of a major integration initiative that will provide connectivity between FORUM’s Total Account Processing System (TAPS®) Enterprise Lending application and a wide variety of databases and applications using Ensemble from InterSystems.

InterSystems develops and markets the Ensemble universal integration platform. FORUM Solutions, a subsidiary of FORUM Credit Union, specializes in delivering financial services applications to credit unions and banking institutions nationwide.

Rapid Integration Delivery

Initially launched in 1999, TAPS Enterprise Lending is currently running in financial institutions throughout the US. However, the requirement to interact with multiple platforms, hosts and legacy systems means that with every sale, FORUM Solutions had to make significant site-specific customizations to the lending application. “As a result, every deployment required a major investment of time and resources,” says Cameron Minges, FORUM Solutions chief software architect.

FORUM Solutions examined many integration platforms with the objective of providing the universal connectivity needed to drastically cut TAPS deployment time. After running into critical problems with its first integration attempt, using another integration product, FORUM Solutions re-examined integration product offerings and selected the Ensemble universal integration platform.

“We began work in April and we were able to begin beta testing the Ensemble-based version of TAPS by late July,” says Minges. Ensemble provides a unified graphical, XML and code-based development environment that accelerates modeling and automates business processes for business analysts and developers. “With Ensemble, it’s one environment for everything…that enables much faster development and deployment,” according to Minges.

“Ensemble has given us the power to provide our customers with improved control over the type of product they receive,” Minges continues. “Ensemble gives us the adapters we need, something that we did not find when evaluating multiple other integration platforms.” Additional capabilities, including a built-in XSLT parser for XML connectivity and an embedded testing engine that makes it easy for developers to test integration with new platforms, were also key factors in the selection of Ensemble.

Deployment Time Slashed

With the success of the Ensemble proof of concept project, FORUM Solutions plans to deploy the Ensemble-based TAPS Enterprise Lending release in 4Q04. Minges estimates that the new Ensemble-based system version can be deployed at customer sites in one-third the time required to deploy the previous application release. “This will potentially save us a significant amount of money every year. We’re looking forward to receiving a rapid return on our software investment once we begin the production rollout later this year,” he says.

“FORUM Solutions’ experience with Ensemble typifies what we’re seeing throughout our customer base as Ensemble integration projects are developed and deployed,” says InterSystems Managing Director of Application Integration Trevor Matz. “We are very pleased to be working as a technology partner with FORUM Solutions as they go live with this breakthrough Ensemble-based lending system on the Web.”
