About the Caché Evaluation version

What is Caché Evaluation?
Caché Evaluation is a fully functional single-user version of the Caché Database. It includes all of the development and deployment capabilities of larger Caché implementations except the ability to network with other Caché systems and to connect terminals, instruments, or similar external input devices. Although it is limited to a single user, Caché Evaluation can run twelve concurrent processes.

On what platforms is Caché Evaluation available?
Caché Evaluation is available for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Mac OS X, Red Hat Linux, and SuSE Linux.

Does Caché Evaluation include materials to help me learn Caché?
Yes, Caché includes a complete online documentation set as well as our Building Applications with Caché tutorial.

What is the difference between a Caché single-user version and a Caché Evaluation version?
The single-user version of Caché is available in two forms: single-user version and evaluation version. There is no functionality difference but there are packaging and support differences, as shown in the following table.

Can commercial applications be deployed with the Caché Evaluation version?
No, the evaluation version is for product evaluation only and can not be used to build or deploy commercial applications.

Can a Caché Evaluation version be upgraded to a single-user version?
Yes, simply by paying the license fee for a single-user version. Please contact our Order Processing Department at orderproc@intersystems.com or +1(617) 577-3600.

How can I distinguish a Caché single-user version from an evaluation version?
During start up, the single-user version displays a customer name. An alternate message is displayed for the Caché Evaluation version.

How do I get new versions of the Caché Evaluation product?
New versions of Caché Evaluation can be download at no charge from InterSystems' Web site. To upgrade single-user versions, please contact our Order Processing Department at orderproc@intersystems.com or +1(617) 577-3600.

Why is InterSystems offering free Caché Evaluation version?
Our experience is that, once an application developer gets a chance to use Caché, he or she will quickly discover how productive it is and will go on to build excellent applications. We want to remove price as a barrier for those developers to get started.
