Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care Indonesia and InterSystems Deploy Cloud EMR System

InterSystems TrakCare and IRIS for Health to support data-driven innovation at three leading private hospitals with advanced analytics, interoperability, and FHIR compliance

JAKARTA, Indonesia & SINGAPORE, September 27, 2022InterSystems, a provider of next-generation solutions for enterprise digital transformation to help customers solve the most critical data challenges, today announced that Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care Indonesia (RSDHI) is deploying the InterSystems TrakCare® unified healthcare information system with the InterSystems IRIS for Health™ data platform to create a shared, cloud-based electronic medical record (EMR) system.

The system will support advanced data analytics and interoperability as the foundation of RSDHI’s digital transformation strategy to maximize the value of its data. A centralized, system will support the group’s market-leading private hospitals by the end of 2023.

Expected benefits include improved digital integration, patient engagement, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiencies and, most importantly, the ability to shared medical information between all hospitals which would ultimately improve patient satisfaction.

RSDHI has pioneered the use of world-class healthcare information systems in Indonesia in a 20-year partnership with InterSystems. Its hospitals were among the first in Southeast Asia to implement EMR systems with electronic ordering, reporting of test results, and other clinical functions. These have supported RSDHI in delivering high levels of patient satisfaction and safety.

By renewing its partnership with InterSystems, RSDHI will be able to access health data to support clinical and operational analytics across its entire organization to reap further benefits from its technology investments. It also expects to integrate digital services supporting faster patient claims processing, third-party booking services, self-service kiosks, and smart-ward technology.

The COVID-19 pandemic has unleashed a wave of digital health innovation in Indonesia, according to Peter Hong, Group CEO of Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care. This has allowed RSDHI to continuously improve its digitalization, with the most important initiative being the upgrade of its healthcare information system to the latest version of TrakCare. The upgrade will enable collaboration and integration to external third-party applications through APIs (Application Programming Interfaces).

The InterSystems IRIS for Health™ healthcare data platform underlying TrakCare will allow RSDHI to provide advanced interoperability, develop and consume FHIR® (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources®) apps, and orchestrate digital services. It will also enable RSDHI to comply with the Indonesian Ministry of Health’s requirement to support the FHIR interoperability standard by December 2023.

“With IRIS for Health, we will have a quicker integration process,” added Benedict Sulaiman, Vice President of Information Technology for RSDHI. Integrating TrakCare with insurance companies and third-party administrators (TPAs) via APIs will speed up the processing of patient claims. RSDHI is also looking to speed up the processing of incoming patients by integrating TrakCare with third-party healthtech companies that provide services linking doctors and patients to hospitals and scheduling appointments.

With advanced interoperability, RSDHI can innovate more quickly. “For example, we are developing a self-service kiosk at one of the hospitals in parallel with the new TrakCare system. With a centralized system, it can be integrated once for all the hospitals. Previously, the integration process would have to be repeated three times due to current distributed system for each hospital,” said Benedict.

RSDHI is also looking at smart wards. These would allow patients to use smart TVs to order food, learn about treatment programs, access results, and check ongoing bills. “It is very important to maintain digital engagement with the patient,” said Luciano Brustia, Regional Managing Director Asia Pacific for InterSystems. “The patient information is held in TrakCare, but there will also be integration with supporting applications. That is where IRIS for Health will come to the fore.”

By analyzing data across the organization, RSDHI expects to drive efficiencies in pharmacy completion and bed turnaround times, improving patient experience. It will also be able to monitor patient wait times and adherence to appointment times to further enhance the patient journey.

To realize these benefits, RSDHI is working with InterSystems on data quality. “Because of customizations at the different hospitals, the current data is inconsistent,” said Benedict from RSDHI. “To maximize the benefits of data analytics, we are prioritizing data quality and integrity. With standardized data on a single, cloud-based platform, we can move to the next level of analytics with technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning.”

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care Indonesia, our longest-standing customer in Indonesia, to take them to the next level of digital health innovation,” said Luciano Brustia from InterSystems. “We see huge potential for healthcare providers in Indonesia to use data analytics and advanced interoperability to meet their challenges. We look forward to supporting RSDHI’s continued success.”
