HIE Architecture and Implementation with HealthShare
Use of HealthShare for health information exchange (HIE) among organizations and clinicians, regionally and nationally, is growing quickly worldwide. HIE projects in New York State, in Rhode Island, and Sweden’s national electronic health record showcase the power and benefits of HealthShare.
New York State
In this brief video, Tim Andrews, lead technical architect of SHIN-NY (Statewide Health Information Network for New York), speaks about how an emerging set of standards, protocols, and statewide instances of SOA enable health information sharing across NY State, and provide a model for the nation.
HealthShare supports SOA and all of the protocols and standards discussed by Tim, and is used by the following regional health information exchanges in the state of New York:
- Brooklyn Health Information Exchange
- Healthcare Information Xchange of New York
- Long Island Patient Information Exchange
Rhode Island
In this video you will learn about Rhode Island’s health information exchange called currentcare. With HealthShare at its foundation, currentcare will enable physicians statewide to see their patients’ laboratory test results from several data sharing partners. Eventually all of their patients’ health information, including prescription drug records, radiology, and medical history will be available for review using currentcare.
Sweden
The Swedish National Patient Summary (known as the NPÖ), is a national electronic health record and one of the first of its kind in the world. Watch the video above to learn about the goals driving the project, and what is possible with HealthShare. More detail is here.
