Motoman Uses Ensemble to Extend Robot Functionality and Win New Business
Motoman is a worldwide leader in the industrial robotics manufacturing market. Their RobotWorld division makes laboratory robots for high volume specimen processing and associated tasks. The business opportunity presented to Motoman by their prospect, Kaiser Permanente, was to extend the functionality of their robotics solution by integrating it with Kaiser's laboratory applications – something no other vendor was able to rapidly address. Motoman used InterSystems' Ensemble to integrate with Kaiser's laboratory software and won the business.
Motoman is delivering a system for Kaiser Permanente that will sort, organize, and distribute more than 30,000 specimens per day that are then delivered to Kaiser's core test labs. A variety of robots will perform these functions, each in its own work cell.
Ensemble provides Motoman with adapters and process automation capabilities for orchestrating information flow between the robots and Kaiser's laboratory systems. It also enables Motoman to monitor and capture key performance indicators, during the robots' operation, and integrate this data with Kaiser's business systems. By including Ensemble's real-time business activity monitoring and executive dashboard capabilities in its robotics offering, Motoman provides Kaiser managers with actionable information used to improve laboratory operations, in addition to real-time insight into the robots' efficiency.
