Optalert Vehicle System
The Web-based Optalert Vehicle System, which is used by many of the world’s largest mining and transport companies, is the only real-time safety system in the world that detects the early onset of drowsiness during a journey by accurately measuring a person’s level of alertness, quantifying to both driver and company their fatigue risk profile. Vehicle operators wear specialized Optalert driver glasses that measure the velocity of the wearer’s eyelid 500 times per second using tiny infrared emitters and receivers built into the frame of the glasses.
Optalert uses the Caché high-performance object database to store massive amounts of data used for company reporting, trend analysis, and to detect opportunities for improvements.
By using Caché, Optalert was able to move to a software-as-a-service (SAAS) business model and to provide an in-the-cloud service that can be tailored to meet the varying requirements of its mining and transport industry clients.
