BTC AG Creates Revolutionary Smart Meter System
on CACHÉ Database Platform
BTC Business Technology Consulting AG is enabling consumers throughout Germany to get the information they need to control energy consumption countrywide. The global consulting firm has built a new component of its Smarter Metering Suite that leverages the massive scalability and high performance of the InterSystems CACHÉ to deliver the functionality and data needed to control consumption patterns and lower energy usage. The CACHÉ-based application processes truly enormous data volumes:
- Just one mid-sized city would typically an estimated 240,000 conventional meters
- Quarter-hour readings would produce about 960,000 sets of meter data every hour
- That data must be processed, archived and time-stamped with calculations performed on time series.
Extensive stress testing by BTC AG resulted in CACHÉ outperforming relational databases by a factor of two, making a radical process transformation a reality for BTC AG and its clients. That’s why they’ve received an InterSystems 2011 Breakthrough Application Award.
