The Fastest Path to Connected Healthcare
HealthShare is uniquely designed to satisfy the requirements of health information exchanges while dramatically reducing the risks and costs associated with such efforts. Following are snapshots of how some networks are utilizing HealthShare today:
Brooklyn Health Information Exchange Selects HealthShare
When the Brooklyn Health Information Exchange (BHIX) was evaluating platforms for multiple information exchange projects, the not-for-profit regional health information organization (RHIO) set the bar up high. First, respondents were required to deliver solutions supporting specific use cases involving Medicaid, public health, connectivity between New Yorkers and clinicians, and clinical decision support in a health information exchange environment (HIE).
The next step was to develop and implement a proof-of-concept initiative specified by BHIX. HealthShare’s advanced capabilities and adherence to industry standards combined with the technical expertise of the InterSystems team and InterSystems' embrace of the concepts the Statewide Health Information Network of New York led to the selection of HealthShare by BHIX.
As a result, HealthShare is being used for HIE across a network that includes providers serving more than 2.5 million Brooklyn residents in BHIX projects designed to improve health care quality, affordability and outcomes across the continuum of care
Healthcare Information Xchange of New York Rolls Out on
HealthShare PlatformThe Healthcare Information Xchange of New York (HIXNY) is a not-for-profit regional health information organization (RHIO) that includes local physician groups, hospitals, health care associations, health plans, institutions of higher learning, government, employers, and other health care entities. With the completion of the move from a legacy health information exchange platform to HealthShare, HIXNY is well positioned to move forward with adding new capabilities for the multitude of clinicians accessing the network portal. HealthShare is used to serve these diverse groups with a series of initiatives designed to connect health care organizations throughout 17 counties in New York State.
Nearly 200,000 e-prescriptions have been written via HIXNY, which provides access to patient data such as medication and allergy history that are critical to optimal care delivery. The current focus is on providing laboratories with connectivity through HealthShare. With a lab that is part of Northeast Health going live first, there are now three laboratory feeds representing four hospitals that are channeling results, including microbiology, pathology and blood bank results into the HIE network.
HealthShare Serves as Foundation of Long Island Health Information Network
The Long Island Health Information eXchange (LIPIX) is using HealthShare to build a sustainable and reproducible model for integrating and sharing clinical data among Long Island health care institutions. Seven public and private health care organizations in multiple locations throughout Long Island have joined forces to enable this regional health information network.
HealthShare provides standards-based capabilities and information security combined with a physician-friendly design to support rapid adoption by network participants. LIPIX now provides authorized physicians in health care facilities across Long Island with secure access to more than 834,000 patient medical records. As a result, critical data from patient electronic health records (EHRs) is shared to improve care delivery in any location, while at all times protecting patient privacy.
Sweden on Road to Developing Countrywide Health Information Network Based on InterSystems HealthShare
TietoEnator, one of the largest IT services companies in Europe, is in the process of building the Swedish national EHR, known as the National Patient Overview (NPO), on the HealthShare platform. The NPO is designed to enable sharing of patient information between regional and local care providers in both the public and private sectors.
The Nordic market is regularly cited as the frontrunner in developing digital health care. The HealthShare-based NPO in Sweden is the latest evidence of how Nordic countries are leveraging information technology to provide optimal care delivery nationwide.
