Ensemble Backgrounder
About Ensemble
InterSystems Ensemble® is a seamless platform for integration and the development of new connected applications. Ensemble is used to integrate applications with support for HL7 version 2.X and 3, leverage previous software investments through composite applications, and establish an enterprise service bus or SOA infrastructure.
Ensemble is positioned in the Leaders quadrant of Gartner, Inc.’s Magic Quadrant for Application Infrastructure for SOA Composite Application Projects, 4Q08.i
Enabling Success with Connectable Applications
Leading organizations in many industry sectors are taking advantage of Ensemble to transform their enterprises. Following are just a few examples.
Digital Technology International Launches New Publishing Product Built on Ensemble
Newspaper publishing software leader Digital Technology International (DTI) is establishing new media frontiers with a breakthrough solution called “Liquid Media”. Leveraging Ensemble’s connectability, object technology and data transformation capabilities, DTI’s system is making it possible for newspapers to pull information from a wide variety of disparate data repositories and deliver that information via multiple outlets running the gamut from newsprint to the Web to mobile phones and PDAs.
As a result, DTI is ensuring that its newspaper customers worldwide can compete successfully in today’s new and very different news dissemination industry.
Kimberly-Clark Speeds up Supply Chain with Ensemble
InterSystems' application partner OmPrompt delivered an Ensemble-based solution that has enabled Kimberly-Clark Europe to integrate transportation carriers seven times faster than ever before.
With Ensemble, OmPrompt developed a patented message analysis and classification technology that supports automated message mapping and any-to-any communication of business data. For Kimberly-Clark, the cost savings have been significant and organizational efficiency has been maximized.
Rush University Medical Center Completes Phase One of Move from eGate to Ensemble
Chicago-based Rush is nationally ranked in nine of 16 specialty areas in U.S. News & World Report’s 2009 “America’s Best Hospitals” and is included in the 2009 “100 Most Wired in Healthcare” ranking by Hospitals and Health Networks. Rush has reached a major milestone in its migration to Ensemble as its enterprise-wide integration platform. With the completion of phase one of its transition strategy, Rush has gone live on Ensemble with financial interfaces, operational monitoring and a high-availability architectural infrastructure. More than 100 real-time HL7 interfaces and over 500 batch interfaces will be running on Ensemble when the migration is complete.
Ensemble’s virtually real-time transaction tracking is enabling fast response to events that happen throughout the organization and to support the high availability that is so critical for healthcare providers. While the migration proceeds on schedule, Rush will also be examining how to further leverage Ensemble in areas such as medical device integration and business process optimization. These plans reflect the organization’s focus on utilizing top-tier technology to enable quality care delivery.
Charlotte Radiology Leverages Ensemble for Business Expansion
How does a radiology group expand its business without hiring additional employees? Charlotte Radiology Group is doing just that with an HL7 messaging hub built on InterSystems Ensemble.
The new hub integrates data feeds from hospitals and clinics throughout the Carolinas. The feeds typically include patient demographics, test orders and dictated X-ray report results. Input messages are converted to a standard format via Ensemble, routed to internal systems for processing and test results and billing transactions sent back from the hub to the healthcare organizations.
The resulting productivity increase is enabling Charlotte Radiology to expand without hiring more people to handle back-end data processing. As a result, Ensemble has opened up new business opportunities for the radiology group by minimizing the cost of connectivity throughout its network.
Partners HealthCare System Provides Community Physicians with
EMR Access Via EnsembleA leader in healthcare technology innovation, Partners HealthCare System, Inc. in New England includes multiple hospitals and clinics and more than 7,000 physicians attending to four million outpatient visits and 160,000 admissions annually in its healthcare network. One major focus is on enabling electronic medical record (EMR) adoption by all community physician practices in the Partners system. Partners is using Ensemble as a hub to integrate and coordinate the flow of patient information between community-based physicians and the Partners EMR and clinical data repository systems
Hundreds of these physicians throughout Massachusetts are now able to access the latest EMR data for each patient, ensuring consistent patient identification in any location. Partners is positioned to support continued growth of its network statewide while also enabling the highest possible level of quality care delivery.
