About CACHÉ
InterSystems CACHÉ® is a high-performance object database that runs SQL queries faster than relational databases. CACHÉ enables rapid Web application development, extraordinary transaction processing speed, massive scalability, and real-time queries against transactional data — with minimal maintenance requirements. CACHÉ supports a wide range of development tools, programming languages, and hardware platforms.
Reliable, High-performance Database Software for Enterprise Applications
CACHÉ is embedded in more clinical applications than any other database engine and has a track record of success in organizations worldwide. Leading health care IT vendors such as Epic Systems, GE Healthcare, Sunquest and MEDecision build their top-tier applications on CACHÉ. Here are some examples of how health care enterprises across the U.S. have leveraged CACHÉ to achieve their goals:
U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs Builds Innovative VistA EHR System on CACHÉ
For more than two decades, InterSystems has provided the Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA) with the database software that enables the organization's health care initiatives. One example is the CACHÉ-based VistA electronic health record (EHR) system.
Profiled by media outlets worldwide, VistA allows authorized VA personnel to view EHRs for all of the 5.3 million patients treated at the hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers operated by the department. The resulting elimination of potential medical errors, increased speed of care delivery, improved provider performance and reduced data entry have made VistA the application cited repeatedly for setting the innovation standard among EHR systems nationwide.
Partners Healthcare Relies on CACHÉ for Hundreds of High-Performance Clinical Applications
Partners Healthcare System, Inc. is recognized throughout the U.S. as a leader in effective and innovative use of IT. Boston-based Partners is an integrated delivery network (IDN) that includes multiple major hospitals with more than 7,000 practicing physicians attending to four million outpatient visits and 160,000 admissions annually.
For years, the organization has been using CACHÉ as the underlying database for hundreds of clinical and administrative applications that are used by tens of thousands of clinicians throughout the Partners integrated delivery network. One example: Partners recently rolled out an application that links biomedical devices in physicians' offices with the CACHÉ-based longitudinal medical record - the Partners implementation of an EHR. By introducing the concept of a vital signs workstation that automatically feeds a patient's most recent blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate and other key data to that patient's record, Partners is once again utilizing innovative technology to ensure world-class care delivery.
Bio Reference Laboratories Upgrades to CACHÉ for Faster Processing and Business Growth
Bio Reference Laboratories is one of the largest full-service medical laboratories in North America, and it’s still growing. That’s why executives moved to CACHÉ. As a result, Bio Reference has implemented a major upgrade to an aging results reporting system around which the entire organization revolves.
Developers used CACHÉ to create Web pages containing drop down menus, selection lists, and other components all tied automatically to content in the CACHÉ database. Users now create reports simply by selecting items from the menus and lists, with the results displayed in a table format.
The switch to CACHÉ has also provided increased staff productivity, improved customer service and a higher level of security than ever before. And, by replacing five database servers with one CACHÉ server, interface interactions are now 30% faster than before, while data processing is up to 50% faster. The bottom line is that with CACHÉ, Bio Reference has the database it needs for continued rapid growth at a total cost of ownership that has decreased dramatically.
PAML Slashes Processing Time 88 Percent with CACHÉ
When PAML migrated to CACHÉ, executives were looking for fast performance and massive scalability to support aggressive growth. CACHÉ delivered at a level that exceeded expectations.
The move from a legacy database to CACHÉ enabled PAML, one of the top clinical reference labs in the U.S., to cut month-end processing time from 47 hours down to six hours—an 88 percent decrease. Nightly processing runs that formerly required four hours are completed in less than an hour with CACHÉ. And, the turnaround time for queries went down from eight hours to just a few minutes.
Some 500 applications were converted to run on CACHÉ over a single weekend. As a result, PAML is now positioned to move forward with negotiations with new hospitals and to form the additional joint ventures that will enable the company to continue executing its rapid growth strategy.
