CACHÉ Chosen for University’s New Wireless Research Centre
UK Partnership for CACHÉ Campus Programme
Eton, UK - March 4, 2002 - InterSystems has announced that the Wireless Information Technology Research Centre (WITRC) at Middlesex University has chosen CACHÉ as its database technology of choice for research.
The centre – which will be launched officially on October 24th – has been set up to research into areas such as mobile networks, home area networks, wireless healthcare systems, wireless learning systems, wireless security, e-technologies, wireless payments and wireless internet.
The latest version of InterSystems’ post-relational database technology CACHÉ 5 has been chosen by Middlesex University because its combination of object, relational and multi-dimensional technologies and its close integration with .NET, JAVA, XML, SOAP, Web Services provide users with great flexibility and speed when developing wireless applications.
The partnership is the latest in the UK for InterSystems’ worldwide university programme, CACHÉ Campus, designed specifically to help academics, researchers and students in learning about the latest technology being used in business. Among other things, the programme donates software licences and technical support at no cost.
“We are extremely proud to partner with WITRC in this prestigious new research initiative. Wireless applications present some of the most complex challenges to information technology today. CACHÉ couples the proven performance, scalability and reliability of an industrial strength database with the flexibility to support innovative approaches to application development,” says Brendan Towers, education manager, InterSystems UK.
“We want to be the key university player in the wireless field,” says the centre’s convenor Dr Luminita Vasiu. “Academia, industry and government have to work together to develop wireless solutions for almost all e-commerce applications.”
