The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Selects EPR Partner

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital selects InterSystems as its new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) partner

Windsor, UK, 23rd October, 2025 - The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ROH) is pleased to announce that it has selected InterSystems as its Electronic Patient Record (EPR) partner, following a thorough and collaborative procurement process.

This important decision marks a major milestone in the Trust’s digital transformation journey and represents a significant investment in the future of the hospital. The new EPR will support the delivery of safer, more efficient, and more joined-up care for patients, while providing clinical and operational teams with improved access to information and more streamlined ways of working.

Chief Executive at the ROH, Matthew Hartland, said:
“Selecting InterSystems as our EPR partner is an exciting step forward for our hospital. This partnership will give our teams the digital tools to enhance the outstanding care they deliver. We’re excited about the future and the potential a new EPR offers us to continue improving how we care for people.”

Colin Henderson, Country Manager, InterSystems UKI said:
We are delighted to be partnering with Royal Orthopaedic Hospital on this important phase of their digital journey. The move to InterSystems TrakCare EPR will help improve information access and exchange, and will provide a more harmonised experience for clinical and administrative users. We look forward to working closely with the ROH to unlock the full potential of their new EPR and help drive meaningful improvements in patient outcomes and operational efficiencies.

The procurement process involved extensive engagement with staff from across the hospital, including clinicians who participated in demonstrations, workshops and evaluations. Their expertise and feedback played a vital role in identifying the system best suited to the needs of ROH’s patients and staff. Implementation planning is now underway, with a view to begin the programme in 2026.

A strong track record of innovation

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital already has a strong track record of innovation, from pioneering treatments with robotic-assisted joint replacements to leading research in regenerative medicine and delivering self-management tools via digital platforms.

Building on that foundation, the ROH will work closely with InterSystems to design a system that truly reflects the needs of patients. As the EPR is embedded, paper-based notes and separate databases will progressively be replaced by secure, integrated, accessible digital records, giving clinicians fast access to complete patient histories, reducing administrative burden, and enabling more coordinated, efficient care.
This is a transformational programme that will take time, careful planning, and collaboration, but it builds on the very best of what ROH already does.
