Advisory: Resource Exhaustion Using XCPD/XCA

This problem affects the following products:

  • All versions of HealthShare Unified Care Record® and Information Exchange prior to 2025.2

Requirements:

  • IHE XCA

The XCPD Responding Gateway in the XCA workflow is synchronous but has no timeout implemented, so a sufficiently high request rate for a sustained period of time can result in an ever-increasing queue of synchronous requests, each with their own process.

Once a threshold of processes is reached, the server can reach resource exhaustion, resulting in a crash.

The correction for this defect is identified as HSIEC-11400, which is included in version 2025.2 and in all future product releases. It is also available for older versions via ad hoc change file (patch) or full kit distribution by contacting the Worldwide Response Center (WRC).
