Tours of Houston Methodist, Texas Medical Center Innovation Institute, and Healthconnect provide insight into the future of healthcare happening today!
HOUSTON, October 3, 2018 – On Wednesday, October 3, 2018 Greater Houston Healthconnect (GHH) and InterSystems sponsored an international delegation of healthcare leaders at the world-renowned Houston Methodist, as well as the Texas Medical Center (TMC) Innovation Institute. The tours enabled delegates to see the inner workings of the U.S. healthcare system first-hand, including the power of GHH’ InterSystems-based Health Information Exchange coordinating care across disparate provider systems.
The group of delegates representing nine countries (including Australia, China, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Hungary, Japan, Thailand, and the United Kingdom), were in Texas as part of the InterSystems Global Summit conference. Global Summit is an annual gathering of InterSystems customers and partners focused on education, innovation, and networking.
The day’s program included an overview from Nick Bonvino, CEO of Greater Houston Healthconnect, describing how the health information exchange enables connected care across Southeast Texas; a presentation from Nicholas Desai, M.D., CMIO at Houston Methodist, who demonstrated how clinicians use HealthShare Information Exchange to deliver outside patient records at the point of care directly into their clinical workflow; a presentation from Erik Halvorsen, Ph.D., who runs the TMC Innovation Institute; and remarks from Cathy Easter, president & CEO of Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services, and Sr. VP, Community Development.
“Healthcare is a universal need, and its challenges are global,” said Don Woodlock, vice president of HealthShare at InterSystems. “We are proud to work with such visionary partners as Greater Houston Healthconnect to ensure the technology we develop enables their teams to better serve their participants and in turn their patients.”
By visiting the Texas Medical Center – where Houston Methodist, Healthconnect, and the TMC Innovation Institute are located – the delegates were able to witness real-time information exchange and new innovations that are driving the healthcare industry.
“The insights gained from the visit to TMC were fantastic, and the potential to learn from what Eric and his team have achieved will prove invaluable to us in Bendigo,” said Peter Faulkner, CEO of Bendigo Health, the largest hospital in the state of Victoria and an InterSystems customer. Bendigo was recently selected as the first Regional Health Accelerator site, in partnership with the Melbourne Health Accelerator (MH X) in Victoria.
“Greater Houston Healthconnect was proud to host this event with InterSystems, showcasing our implementation of HealthShare” said Bonvino. “In addition to our core information exchange services, we were delighted to present our real-time alerts and research service lines, as well as 911 support and other value-added programs. Working with members of the Texas Medical Center and the TMC Innovation Institute is a great privilege, as we successfully employ innovative technologies to address the challenges that face healthcare providers, payers, and patients. By connecting these parts together, we have created a better health and care ecosystem in Texas.”
