InterSystems Joins MIT Generative AI Impact Consortium as Founding Member

New Collaboration Positions InterSystems to Help Research Responsible AI Development and Advance Real-World Use Cases in Healthcare

April 30, 2025 - InterSystems, a creative data technology provider managing more than one billion health records globally, today announced it has joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ( MIT) Generative AI Impact Consortium (MGAIC), an industry-academic collaboration designed to guide the responsible development and deployment of generative AI. As the consortium’s seventh founding member and first in industry focused on healthcare, InterSystems will collaborate with leading MIT researchers and other industry members to research how AI innovation can address critical needs and delivers lasting impact.

Launched in February 2025, the consortium unites researchers from MIT’s five schools and the Schwarzman College of Computing with strategic industry members to promote responsible and collaborative approaches to generative AI. Led by MIT’s Office of Innovation and Strategy and administered by the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, the consortium aims to harness AI’s transformative potential for societal good, proactively addressing challenges to prevent unintended consequences. The other founding members of the consortium are Analog Devices, The Coca-Cola Co., OpenAI, Tata Group, SK Telecom, and TWG Global.

“We’re pleased to welcome InterSystems to the consortium as a critical voice in AI innovation,” said Anantha Chandrakasan, dean of the MIT School of Engineering and MIT’s chief innovation and strategy officer, who leads the consortium. “Their expertise in healthcare adds an important dimension to our research and will help ensure the transformative power of generative AI reaches healthcare systems around the world.”

As a consortium member, InterSystems will contribute to research initiatives, workshops, and educational programs aimed at preparing society for an AI-driven future. Additionally, InterSystems executives Scott Gnau (Head of Data Platforms) and Don Woodlock (Global Head of Healthcare Solutions) will join the consortium’s independent advisory board, each bringing decades of expertise in AI-powered healthcare infrastructure and enterprise data platforms.

"Generative AI is transforming how organizations leverage data to drive smarter, faster decisions, especially in healthcare, where the stakes are high and the impact is profound,” said Gnau. “The InterSystems team is excited to leverage our experience in scalable data infrastructure and AI to help the consortium research real-world applications that prioritize both innovation and responsibility.”

"Joining the MIT Generative AI Impact Consortium as an industry member and board member is a full-circle moment for me as an MIT graduate," said Woodlock. “This collaboration with some of the brightest minds in academia and industry will play a key role in shaping how AI will continue to fundamentally change healthcare for years to come.”
