Chris Hosking - Department of Corporate and Digital Development, Northern Territory Government
Chris Hosking came to the Northern Territory as a young child, completed his schooling here and joined the NT Public Service in the mid 1980s as a base grade clerk. Not long out of high school, he planned to take a ‘gap year’ prior to heading off to university, having been accepted to study mechanical engineering (he was mad about drag racing) and marine biology (he was also keen on fishing). In the meantime life got in the way and he has been with the NTPS ever since.
His first job was that of a pay clerk, calculating pays for Aboriginal employees in remote bush schools. No computerised payroll system, just a calculator, a biro and set of tax scales. He moved on into a number of HR related roles and later volunteered to be part of the new central corporate services agency when the original DCIS was formed in 1998. The chance to build a new department from the ground being too good to pass up.
Chris has been deeply engaged in every aspect of the NT Government’s corporate services operating model ever since.
Chris has undertaken a broad range of roles in his time with the NTPS. He has a proven track record leading a large agency in the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary services at a whole-of-enterprise level and strong credentials in the leadership of complex ICT projects including recovery of compromised projects.
Chris is currently the Chief Executive of the Department of Corporate and Digital Development (DCDD), a role that he absolutely loves. Chris is passionate about leadership and achieving results through enabling people to flourish and reach their full potential. He has a particular interest in mentoring up and coming leaders to aim high and be all that they can.
In his spare time Chris has had a lifelong devotion to health and fitness and was actively involved in competitive bodybuilding at the national level when he was younger. He still maintains a strict training regime and gets out of bed in the early hours to exercise and start the day.
Chris lives in Darwin with his wife Margie of more than 30 years and two young adult children that show up occasionally. He is deeply committed the Northern Territory and our way of life here in this very special part of the world.
