Data is Key to COVID-19 Contact Tracing and Syndromic Surveillance

As the country gradually reopens and people begin returning to work and school, health officials and local leaders must remain vigilant in monitoring the spread of COVID-19. However, tracking procedures which could aid in that effort, such as contact tracing and syndromic surveillance, have been hampered by the inefficient exchange of testing data between healthcare organizations and officials at the local, state, and federal levels.

Dr. Jonathan Teich, Chief Information Medical Officer at InterSystems, spoke with Dr. Bob Kaiser, Clinical Professor at Naveen Jindal School of Management, UT Dallas, about the role of data in producing accurate contact tracing and syndromic surveillance initiatives and how streamlining the exchange of electronic health records will improve patient outcomes in the wake of COVID-19.
