QuadraMed, a long-time InterSystems application partner, is a leading provider of healthcare information technology systems. With their knowledge of the day-to-day workings of large healthcare institutions, they were quick to see how embedded real-time business intelligence capabilities could make their applications more valuable by giving users timely information they need to do their jobs better. “We were already starting to look into what we could achieve with ‘operational’ business intelligence,” says Tom Easterly, Senior VP and CTO of QuadraMed, “so we were delighted when we heard that InterSystems was introducing DeepSee. We couldn’t wait to get our hands on it. InterSystems is providing their application partners with a truly powerful technology.”
The first QuadraMed solution to be enhanced with InterSystems DeepSee® is a registration auditing and quality improvement application that, among other functions, provides information needed to process insurance claims. For a hospital, properly filing claims so that the institution is paid for services rendered can be a complicated procedure. Every insurance organization can have different, specific requirements for claim format, allowable values, and consistency of patient data. “We had decided to use InterSystems Ensemble to manage the application workflow and the rules governing data requirements,” Easterly says. “With DeepSee, we go a major step further by making it possible to monitor and report on the operational registration process in real time, as needed.”

New application features created with DeepSee provide users with dashboards to monitor data quality, throughput, and backlog as well as to change data rules and work assignments in real time. For example, users can quickly identify if a rule needs to be altered to facilitate the flow of claims. Or, if one person becomes bogged down with a particularly complex claim, supervisors can see the bottleneck, and adjust work assignments accordingly. “Thanks to DeepSee,” says Easterly, “this capability is built directly into our application. That makes our application more appealing to users, and therefore more competitive in the marketplace.”
