Supporting Spectrum Health Vision
Based on extensive evaluation of integration software products, Spectrum Health chose Ensemble as its core integration platform. “Our vision is to be the nation’s highest quality and most successful healthcare enterprise by 2010,” said Kim Gordon, Integration Solutions Manager at Spectrum Health. “Ensemble is a key component of the IT strategy we’re executing in order to reach that objective.
“We want to do a lot more than the HL7 messaging and web services that we’ve implemented so far,” Gordon explained. “Plans are to move to more of a services oriented architecture (SOA) approach and to create a federated software environment that enables each of our analysts and business partners to create individually tailored business rules. Rather than just writing basic interfaces, we want to create solutions…and we want to create them very rapidly. Having this technology in place will enable us to become more agile and that will be a catalyst to our success in the future,” she continued.

Ensemble provides the advanced capabilities needed to enable the organization’s IT strategy along with a rapid development and deployment environment that supports achieving results in a compressed timeframe. “Ensemble will enable us to achieve our desired technology and business goals” Gordon said. The Spectrum Health team is working on an aggressive schedule that calls for migrating all of Spectrum Health’s application and data repository interfaces to Ensemble. “The first application, our MUSE® Cardiology Information System, went live on Ensemble this month,” Gordon noted.
“It’s a pleasure to work with Spectrum Health as they use Ensemble to implement an IT strategy that enables their organizational vision,” said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “We are committed to helping Spectrum Health succeed in leveraging our software for connected healthcare to achieve an exceptional level of care delivery.”
