According to Gartner, a complete enterprise electronic health record (EHR) will cover the full continuum of care – acute care, ambulatory, behavioral health, home care and long-term care facilities. Not all healthcare delivery organizations will include all care venues, nor do all enterprise EHRs currently have coverage for all care venues, but eventually successful enterprise EHR systems will need to address the requirements of all settings and service lines. Growing recognition of the importance of patient engagement means that the core capabilities of an EHR need to provide functionality for patients as well as clinicians.*
