Setting a Standard for Connected Healthcare

Cambridge Mass. —May 5 , 2008— InterSystems Corporation today announced that Greensboro Radiology has chosen InterSystems Ensemble® software as its enterprise-wide integration platform. Greensboro Radiology is a premier provider of medical diagnostic imaging services and interventional radiology practices in inpatient and outpatient settings.

InterSystems develops and markets innovative database and integration software for connected healthcare. Its product line includes the InterSystems CACHÉ® high-performance object database, Intersystems HealthShare platform for regional and national electronic health records, and InterSystems Ensemble rapid integration platform. Ensemble has been ranked number one for interface engines for the last two years by KLAS, a leader in healthcare technology research.

Rapid Development, Ease-of-Use Drive Software Selection

“Our objective is to eventually offer radiology services any time and anywhere,” said Chip Reklis, Greensboro Radiology CIO. “That means providing technology that enables our radiologists to operate at optimal efficiency. InterSystems Ensemble is the integration software we picked to help make that happen.”

Ensemble was selected after an intensive evaluation of multiple integration software products, according to Reklis. “The fact that Ensemble was rated number one in the KLAS survey weighed heavily in our decision,” he said. “And, after reviewing Ensemble’s capabilities compared with other products, and consulting with another radiology firm that’s a current Ensemble user, we’re convinced that Ensemble is the appropriate choice for our organization.”

Initially, Ensemble will format data coming from multiple systems into a stream of information that will be presented to radiologists as one platform of applications in a single format. “Regardless of how the information came in, it will be perceived by the radiologists as one Picture Archiving and Communications application, one Radiology Information System, one voice recognition application, and so forth,” Reklis explained. Ensemble will then re-transform the radiologists’ test results into whatever format is appropriate for the system receiving the results.

In addition to a user-friendly environment that makes it possible to rapidly build interfaces for a wide variety of systems and data repositories, Ensemble offers the comprehensive features needed to support organizational expansion, Reklis noted. “Right now, our market is in the Greensboro, N.C. geographic area. But, that is changing with this engine. With Ensemble, we have the technology we need for aggressive expansion.” Plans are to go live with the first interface in May, with ongoing rollout of new interfaces throughout the year.

“We are seeing this type of move to a connected healthcare platform as a major trend among our customers and prospects,” said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “We appreciate the opportunity to work with Greensboro Radiology as they execute this innovative strategy.”
