InterSystems signs BT for its CACHÉ database engine
Eton, UK – April 20, 2005 – InterSystems Corporation, a Cambridge, Massachusetts headquartered company that serves the needs of IT organizations and independent software vendors, today announced it has signed a contract with BT for its post-relational CACHÉ database engine. The CACHÉ database will play a key role in the engine of BT Transform’s operational systems support (OSS) program. BT Transform is a business platform for all communications services, applications and business processes based upon a worldwide IP infrastructure. The BT Transform program is targeted at blue chip clients and is designed to automate manual processes, make network operations easier and provide the benefits of well-integrated service-oriented architectures (SOAs).
Steve Fisher, senior solutions developer, BT Global Services: “One of the key objectives of selecting Intersystems’ CACHÉ database is to enable our customers to take full advantage of the benefits of the newly emerging generation of telecommunications services we have to offer. We believe it will help us achieve this by offering a broad range of rich functionality within a single platform. We were impressed with its ability to communicate effectively, and both read from and write to other systems. We anticipate that it will allow us to provide enhanced levels of service and to move into new markets, as well as helping to achieve reduced time-to-market and improved return-on-investment.”
One of CACHÉ’s key strengths is that the core data repository is not only industrial strength but also highly flexible, allowing the same data set to be seen from several different views, including object-oriented and SQL. This is important because BT needs flexibility of access to the same high-quality information.
CACHÉ’s gateway layer enables it to provide coherent coordinated access to external repositories of different technology types. This is critical to BT because in the OSS arena, data access and management challenges are often complex and require a flexible approach to solutions.
CACHÉ’s flexibility also means that its features can be manipulated through exposed comprehensive and extendable object classes. This will enable BT to dynamically deploy services on-demand, which is particularly important given the need for rapid service creation which characterizes the next generation of OSS architectures.
