Medipal Holdings Co., Ltd. Medipal Uses Caché for Breakthrough Logistics
In 2005, Japan’s largest commodity wholesale company, Paltac, merged with the medicine wholesale company Medico Group to form Medico Paltac Holdings, Co., Ltd. The resulting enterprise is the largest wholesale company in Japan with revenues topping ¥2.54 trillion yen ($27.3 billion dollars) in 2000.
- High Performance
The merger created an opportunity to revamp all of Medipal’s computer systems, making them more efficient by leveraging the advanced technology and know-how already in place within Paltac KS, a longtime InterSystems customer. Of particular interest was their Caché-based “SAMS” logistics system, which routinely achieves 99.999% shipping accuracy. Medipal was so impressed with Caché, they chose it as the core database technology for all of their systems going forward.
We have been using Caché for long time and we are very happy with its performance, rapid development, small resource requirements, and cost efficiency.
Mr. Juro Yamagishi, Vice President
First, Medipal undertook the renewal of the information system and replacement of the sales support system within their medicine division. Both projects were successfully finished and brought significant improvements in performance and reduction of resources.
Their next project is to build an innovative medicine logistics center. Every month, Medipal handles as many as 90,000 different items, taking and fulfilling orders from organizations ranging from small hospitals pharmacies to large group hospitals. The new logistics systems will automate the order-taking and delivery process, eliminating potential human error and resulting in higher productivity, improved cost-effectiveness, and better customer service. The goal is to build a logistics system with six sigma quality (fewer than 3.4 errors per million transactions) while maintaining certain and secure delivery to customers.
The first deployment of the new logistics system began running in the Kanagawa Logistic Center in August 2009. It will be followed by a deployment in Osaka, and will ultimately be used nationwide in Japan.
